Venango began as a railroad town, serving nearby farms and ranches in western Perkins County.
Its post office opened in 1888, and for decades, the town supported a school, churches, and a handful of businesses.
Though many buildings have faded, the grain elevator still stands, and the town remains a quiet sentinel near the Colorado border.
Locals remember softball games, church socials, and the sound of trains rolling through at dusk.
Venango’s story is one of quiet resilience—and every submission helps keep it alive.
