Located just off Highway 14, Verdigre is a Czech community, founded in 1887 along the Verdigris Creek.
The creek name was suggested by the presence of the green copper ore.
Verdigre is on the Verdigre Creek, in the rolling hills called the Bohemian Alps.
Verdigre annually celebrates Kolach Days the second weekend of June.
Friday evening is the Queen’s Ball featuring a polka band.
Saturday is full of activities with an open-air dance that night.
Sunday opens with a polka mass, ethnic foods and the Grand Parade.
The local Community Chorus performs a new production every year.
There is also a craft show, carnival and hundreds of Kolaches, a Czech sweet pastery.
Wildwood Acres features camping, RV facilities, cabin rental, swimming pool and tennis courts.
Be sure to visit the Verdigre Heritage Museum, the beautiful redecorated St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
You will find this an excellent hunting area also.
“Old Julies”, Mari Sandoz’ father had a cabin which can still be seen near Verdigre.
The ZCB and Hall is in the national registry of historic places.
